The Royals proved once again that they are competent and skilled enough to build a robot capable of addressing a problem or issue related to disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM). Amos C. Cruz (Grade 9), Marie Gabrielle C. Opiña (Grade 10) and John Patrick E. Britanico (Grade 11) were successful once again in securing the Gold Award during the Robotics Competition and Exhibit for thinking and proposing out-of-the-box solutions that would aid humans in performing tasks by developing a robot that would extend as an intelligent tool in resolving DRRM-related problems. 

The Robotics Competition was an event organized by the Colegio de Muntinlupa (CDM) as part of its 2021 Muntinlupa City Virtual Robotics Fair and Exhibits in partnership with the DOST-NCR, DepED-Muntinlupa, Association of Private School Administrators of Muntinlupa (APSAM), DRRMO-Muntinlupa, and Hytec Power Inc. held on November 23 to 25, 2021. This event was participated in by South Mansfield College (The Goat), PAREF Southridge (Aerify), Muntinlupa National High School – Main (Water Level Monitoring System), Cupang National High School (R3D3), Muntinlupa Science High School (EVO AR), Our Lady of the Abandoned Catholic School (Disaster Response Robot), San Beda College Alabang (i-Bantay) and Lyceum of Alabang (SAFE-EBOT). 

As technology continues to change our society, it is imperative for our students to learn to think critically and to be able to control and create their own digital experience. Robotics is one of the subjects offered in South Mansfield College and it aims to help learners to design creative digital solutions to problems instead of just working with paper and pencil. Senior Kinder to Senior High school students are attending this class once a week. This recent achievement of the Royals is a testament that SMC’s curriculum is truly relevant to the needs of the society and the global community.
